International

The BMS has garnered significant international interest. The method aligns closely with parents’ aspirations to raise their children within the family home. In many countries, there is limited access to care and support, and knowledge about children’s developmental potential is scarce. Parent associations do their best to support families and have expressed interest in the family-centered approach of the BMS method.

To support parents and parent associations, Peter Lauteslager and colleague Bert Bakker conducted numerous international visits to 17 countries across Europe, Asia, and South America. During these visits, they organized interactive parent seminars and conducted many individual parent-child consultations. Dozens of BMS training courses, lectures, and seminars were held to train healthcare professionals in applying the BMS method. BMS trainers were also prepared through train-the-trainer programs to deliver BMS courses in their own countries.

Projects received support from partners such as Down Kids International, Up with Down, and Lauteslager, Bakker, and Uitentuis’ Disability Support International Foundation (PBO). Since 2020, international activities have ceased due to retirement.
