How parents can help
Motor development takes time. In order to learn motor skills, children with Down syndrome have to practice a lot. The best results are achieved when they enjoy practicing. That’s why it is very important that parents stimulate their child during daily activities through playfulness. Parents practice with their child by offering meaningful play activities and by intentionally incorporating care routines. Collaboration with parents is a key aspect of this method.
Of course, this treatment should not interfere with normal family activities. An important principle of the BMS method is that parents should be burdened as little as possible. This ensures that parents can consistently support their children’s development while raising them as naturally as possible. The pediatric physiotherapist prioritizes parents’ concerns and tailors the treatment to the family’s specific circumstances.
During treatment, parents gain insight into the specific motor challenges and progress of their child. The BMS method equips parents with tools to support their child’s motor development.
Liam
One of Liam’s first BMS reports stated that he had difficulty maintaining his balance while sitting. We received practical tips and exercises to address this. Peter thoroughly reviewed everything with us, enabling us to practice with Liam at home.
Peter helps us feel confident in guiding our son’s motor development. If something doesn’t go as planned, we can rely on the parent instructions in the book.
