
Background Lauteslager
Since 1981, Dr. Peter E. M. Lauteslager (1958) worked as a pediatric physiotherapist at ’s Heeren Loo in Ermelo, the Netherlands, a residential care center for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
From 1991 onwards, he began publishing research on the motor development of children with Down syndrome. During this period, he worked as a scientist, collaborating with Utrecht University and the Institute for the Study of Education and Human Development (ISED). In 1996, he published “Test of Basic Motor Skills of Children with Down Syndrome: Research into Reliability and Construct Validity” in the Dutch Journal of Physiotherapy. This paper won the ISED Article Prize in 1998.
In 2000, Peter Lauteslager obtained his PhD on the BMS method, which provided a motor measurement instrument and treatment framework for young children with Down syndrome. He subsequently authored additional publications, including work on motor growth curves for children with Down syndrome (Lauteslager, P. E. M., Volman, J. M., Lauteslager, T., Van den Heuvel, M. Lauteslager retired in 2020, and his work continues through the BMS team at ’s Heeren Loo Ermelo in the Netherlands.
